Spine Imaging Protocols - CT/MRI

 

SPINE COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY
Cervical spine: trauma evaluation, bone lesions
Cervical spine myelogram: radiculopathy and MRI contra-indication
Thoracic spine: trauma evaluation, bone lesions (specify levels)
Thoracic spine myelogram: radiculopathy and MRI contra-indication
Lumbar spine: trauma evaluation, bone lesions, post-op fusion assessment
Lumbar spine myelogram: radiculopathy and MRI contra-indication
Sacrum: bone lesions, fracture assessment
Infection and tumor scan: with IV contrast; MRI is preferred

SPINE MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING
Non-contrast cervical spine: radiculopathy, neck pain/trauma, history of Csp surgery
Pre-/post-contrast cervical spine: infection and abscess, tumor
Demyelinating disease (MS protocol): assess for cervical spine/brainstem plaques
Non-contrast thoracic spine: back pain, compression fractures
Pre-/post-contrast thoracic spine: infection and abscess, tumor
Non-contrast lumbar spine: back pain, radiculopathy, Lsp surgery 6 or more yrs ago
Pre-/post-contrast lumbar spine: tumor, infection, Lsp surgery <6 years ago
Vertebroplasty evaluation: compression fractures, assess vertebroplasty eligibility
